Mykonos has been a gay friendly destination since ancient times! With numerous gay hotels beaches and bars the island provides a truly hospitable atmosphere for the gay community. When Italian artist Piero Aversa opened his bar in the early 70s, the vibe exploded with thousands of gays flocking to the island to enjoy lavish and glamorous parties. This freedom and celebration is still very much alive today keeping the island fresh and exciting.

The beaches most frequented by gays are Super Paradise Beach and Elia Beach. Super Paradise is the most famous and until a few years ago it was exclusively gay. Now only the right side of the beach is gay, but the whole area is nude tolerant. The beach has become a favourite not only for gays but for many young straight people.

The west side of Elia Beach, the largest beach on the island, is exclusively gay and nude tolerant. It is more quiet and relaxed than Super Paradise Beach. Also more laid-back is Agios Sostis. The beach is only accessible by car and there is a lovely restaurant overlooking the water.

The most popular exclusively gay hotels are the Elysium Hotel, which overlooks the main town of Chora, and the Geranium Hotel which is slightly further inland. When it comes to nightlife a row of gay bars situated on the water front at the far west side of the harbour which cater especially to the gay crowd with nightly drag shows throughout the summer.

Mykonos is home to Gay tourism, it welcomes it and suports it thoroughly. It is the island's back-bone and pride since the early 70's!
